New Info on the ’09 Honduras Mission Trip
NEWS ABOUT HURRICANE RELIEF From the Wesley Missions Committee:
Since Katrina and Rita, we have hopefully been keeping ourselves aware of the various efforts to aid recovery along the gulf coast of our nation and the islands of the Caribbean.. There have been many television programs, internet, magazine and newspaper articles lifting the work of recovery. These have also documented the often slow pace of progress and the heartache and many frustrations experienced by displaced residents.
Recovery from these devastating hurricanes was only partially accomplished when the 2008 Hurricane storms slammed across the Caribbean, devastating the islands of Haiti and Cuba before crashing onto our shores as well.
There was Gustav and Ike. Survivors said, “It was like Katrina all over again.” The physical destruction is made all the worse by the psychological, emotional and spiritual stress families have endured.
There has been and continues to be a great need for a healing and helping ministry with the many thousands of hurricane victims in Haiti, Cuba, and the United States.
HERE IS HOW OUR CONGREGATION IS WORKING TO BE A PART OF THAT HEALING AND HELPING MINISTRY.
--Prayers for victims’ families have been ongoing. --Funds were sent to UMCOR after Katrina ($500) --Funds were just sent again to UMCOR to assist victims in the U.S. ($250), Haiti ($250), and Cuba ($250). -- Mark and Amy Lucker felt called by God to relocate to Louisiana, where they could give long term help and hope as teachers. --We are beginning to plan for a work team to travel to Louisiana in the spring of 2009.
HERE IS HOW YOU CAN GET PERSONALLY INVOLVED.
--Continue to pray for those whose lives have been devastated by these storms. --Contribute financially to the recovery effort. Checks should be made out to Wesley UMC and noted with the following information: U.S. Hurricane Relief # 3019695 Haiti Hurricane Relief # 418325 Cuba Hurricane Relief # 3020821
--Volunteer to be part of the work team going to Louisiana next Spring. Speak to Pastor Jim if you are interested in going or financially supporting the effort.
Many thanks for your prayers and support for Hurricane Relief. |
